I always thought I didn't have him, but I'm told the trick is to be in Easy mode (which I knew), but then you have to have Noct die AND let the Phoenix Down timer run out. In addition to being cordoned off to, like, 1% (?) of the total land of the game, the demo has a number of other little caps: It's a pretty open demo in that you can putter around the starting area for a good long time, but I pretty much exhausted it after about 12-16 hours of play, poking around all the nooks and crannies of the starting area.
